The Art Of Retirement Living

I was visiting my parents at the cemetery over Christmas and I noticed that they still hadn’t finished my mother’s plaque. There was her date of birth and the dash but they hadn’t inscribed the date that she had passed. The more I thought about it I realized that the most important thing in our lives is the dash. We don’t get to chose our date of birth but we get to choose the dash part which for me means how I plan to live in my Victory Lap. It’s my choice and my responsibility and it’s based on what matters to me. Continue reading “The Art Of Retirement Living”

The Retirement Rebel Belief System

Today’s blog is based on some interesting research that we will be putting into our new book which will be released fall 2020 when I’m 65, and just prior to me attempting Ironman Cozumel. I wanted to release it before that just in case. I am fascinated by how our minds work, and how powerful our minds can be. One of our goals should be to use our minds to our advantage so we can create a better retirement for ourselves. Continue reading “The Retirement Rebel Belief System”

Retirement Is A Game, Play It Well

Retirement is supposed to be fun, it should feel good or your doing something wrong. Personally I was far too serious starting out on my Victory Lap, and a mistake I made was not taking any time off. Right out of the gate I started working full bore on VLR which turned into two books and before I knew it three years of my retirement was gone, and I was forty pounds overweight. If you asked me if it was worth it I would definitely say yes but it came at a cost. Working part time at Bass Pro would have been so much easier but that would have meant missing out on my dream of creating my own business, and being my own boss, something that I always wanted to do. So I decided upon the hard way and through the process I’ve become very aware that too much seriousness is a kind of disease; it is a cancer of the soul and when your serious all the time you lose the fun. Thankfully I don’t spend any time feeling like that anymore. Continue reading “Retirement Is A Game, Play It Well”

What Does The Word Retirement Mean?

If you have seen any of our presentations you have heard the story of Mike being told by his publisher that he had written a book about “not retiring”. Despite using retirement in the title of the book, the reality is our language has not come up with word(s) that describe what is going on in the “retirement” world now. So here are some thoughts.

Summertime And Living Is Easy

Well warm weather has finally arrived in southern Ontario so we can finally start to think about summer, longer days, warmer nights, trips to the cottage and campfires. One of the joys of Victory Lap Retirement (VLR) is that you now have the time and the ability to decide how you will spend your time. To that end we have decided to cut back on our blogs until September, instead we will enjoy the warm weather, focus on our families, travel, and continue to work on building our small business. Celebrating Another Milestone

I have told this story before but I wanted to keep you up to date on what we are doing with our Presentation and Coaching business. We set a target date of April 1st to get our coaching guide into edit and guess what it’s there! We are excited knowing that it will help a lot of people figure out this retirement thing having been through the ringer ourselves but it will require a lot of polishing before it’s ready to release to our coaching clients. This will be our last book on the subject and will serve as the foundation for our coaching business so we want to take our time and do it right. After that is done we will add a couple of chapters to the guide and publish it as a DIY coaching guide hopefully by the end of this year. Continue reading “Celebrating Another Milestone”
