In Retirement, I Feel Like Scrooge On Christmas Morning

The Contessa and I both love Christmas. It’s just a special time of the year for the both us.

A tradition I always look forward to (in addition to eating a turkey meal) is watching the movie adaption of “A Christmas Carol”. There is just something about that movie that gets to me every time I watch it. I like the message it sends and it serves as an annual wake up call for me. In the movie, Scrooge is given the opportunity to review his life and the mess he has made out of it. And finally, after many years, he understands that money and possessions alone will not bring a person happiness.

My favorite part is when Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning and realizes that it is still not too late for him to change. The look in his eyes and the utter joy that he radiates is something to behold. From that point on, Scrooge is a changed man and is focused on helping the people he had previously ignored. After so many wasted years he finally starts living again.

The movie reminds me that it’s never too late to change our lives for the better. If Scrooge can change his life, what’s stopping us from doing the same?

The story of Scrooge reminds me of what my life used to be like and how starting my own Victory lap helped save my future. My relationship with my family has never been better. I also now have the opportunity to help lots of people transition to their own version of Victory Lap Retirement and follow a path similar to mine. Now instead of dreading my days, I jump out of bed just like Scrooge on Christmas morning, excited about what the day may bring.

It’s very special when you can honestly say that you are living the life that you always wanted. Not many people can say that, especially these days. Don’t be like most people, who only figure things out lying on their deathbed, suffering from regret.

Do you really like the way you are currently living? Does your current job add a lot of stress to your life? Does that stress affect the relationship that you have with your family? If the answer to these questions is yes, then you might want to give yourself the gift of adopting a Victory Lap philosophy this Christmas. It might give you the answers that you have been searching for and allow you to escape to a life that you always dreamed about. Dreams do come true. Trust me, I’m living proof of that!

Christmas Signals It’s Time To Complete Your Annual Review

Every year between Christmas and New Year’s the Contessa and I sit down and review our personalized “road map”, the goals we set for ourselves annually. Our road map is broken down into a number of categories: health, family, money, top ten list, good/bad habits, and so on. We review the goals we have accomplished over the past year and establish new goals to ensure that we continue to enjoy an awesome Victory Lap Lifestyle. We make a list of the special occasions that will be coming up-birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, holidays and plan ways to make them unique and memorable. I will share my list with everyone early in January. Let’s just say 2016 has been one heck of a year for us, in a good way.

Having goals and monitoring your progress is an important routine to get into because If you don’t know where you are going how will you know when you get there?

This will be my last blog until January.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone!
