Victory Lap Lifestyle Design

I’m smiling as I type this as I’m still feeling the effects of last night’s swim workout. After the swim I could hardly keep my eyes open, I was done. My body was sore all over, not a bad kind of sore, the kind of sore you get from pushing yourself after not doing an activity for a very long time.

I’ve been going to the gym and pool on a regular basis since early January and I am amazed by the number of people in their seventies and eighties who work out on a regular basis. I’ve come to know a few of them, their stories and I’m in awe of the lifestyles that they have created. These people are not the type to sit on the couch and watch the world go by. We can learn a lot from these “older” people. Continue reading “Victory Lap Lifestyle Design”

What Makes You Happy?

If you have read our book or  our blogs you know we are big fans of the book Blue Zones by Dan Buttner. Mr. Buttner has studied what makes people happy and healthy around the world. We learn there are different definitions of happy but there are lots of commonality amongst the happiest people in the world. If you have not had a chance take some time and read Blue Zones.

Victory Lap Retirement Is All About Values Based Living (Part 2 of 3)

One of the keys to creating a fulfilling Victory Lap is being self-aware. Being aware of what is important to you will provide clarity for what matters to you and what makes you feel good. To accomplish this we need to understand our values and what motivates us.

Our values reflect what is important and guides how we need to live in order to be happy.  If we can align our behaviours with our values we will enjoy an awesome VL. Pretty simple when you think about it. Continue reading “Victory Lap Retirement Is All About Values Based Living (Part 2 of 3)”

Get Active

We have not always stayed in race shape but one constant we both keep moving. Riding, cycling, swimming, walking or playing other sports are all activities that keep us moving. Thoughts From The Road

As promised my partner is back from his biking road trip and I asked him to share some thoughts.

As I rode from Quebec City to Saint John I had lots of time to enjoy the scenery and think as the kilometres rolled by. I consider myself as a distance runner first, so people often asked me what I thought about when I run and did I get bored in my training? My answer: for most of the kilometres I had no problem occupying my mind with thoughts of vacations, family, politics, the state of the world, etc…  Continue reading “Thoughts From The Road”

VLR Bootcamp Breakthrough

I was out for a run/walk with the Contessa earlier in the week and bumped into a friend of ours who was out walking her dog. During our short conversation she said it was nice to see us out running again, after all we have had a three-year absence, she remarked, unsolicited I should point out, that I looked like I had lost some weight. You have no idea how sweet that sounded to me. The benefits from VLR Boot camp were starting to finally show and this positive reinforcement was all that I needed to get me through my workout. My attitude is much better and I’m starting to look forward to the workouts, things are starting to turn. Continue reading “VLR Bootcamp Breakthrough”

It’s Never Too Late

Active Retirement and HobbiesMany people have heard the story about Grandma Moses who started painting when she was seventy-five years old and still managed to have a twenty-six-year career. Stories like hers seem so distant, so outside the realm of possibility, that it is hard to relate to. That is why I love the following story which was provided to me by our publicist Debby, below is her personal account of how her husband followed his passion and created a dream Victory Lap. A story like this is close to home so it takes on a whole new meaning. Enjoy! Continue reading “Victory Lap Lifestyle Profile #3”
